Wethersfield Academy for the Arts is a nonprofit educational organization, created by Doug and Virginia Buck and located at the Old Buck Farm on Hartford Avenue in Historic Old Wethersfield. The Academy embraces several art disciplines where students, working directly with professional artists, are guided and encouraged to develop their unique gifts and talents. We provide opportunities in art classes, workshops, and art lectures for the novice through the professional to benefit from study, apprenticeship, exhibition and performance, and to promote the arts in the best classical tradition for enjoyment and inspiration. We have three studio spaces, each with wonderful lighting whether day or night.
Dear Students, Members and Friends:
At the end of 2022, Betty Standish retired from serving as the Academy’s Program Director. Betty’s hard work and knowledge of all things classical has helped the Academy become recognized as a center of high quality art instruction. Betty also wore hats as a Board member, instructor, student and art show curator. We wish her the best of luck in the future.
Leading the Academy now is Program Director Amy Morgan. Amy has extensive experience founding and leading non-profit organizations, as well as teaching and volunteering. Amy’s robust project management background combined with her dedication to supporting and promoting local groups and initiatives will be key as the Academy strengthens its Wethersfield relationships and builds bridges to students and communities beyond. We anticipate that Amy’s dynamic and engaging personality— and passion for the arts— will create new opportunities for the Academy’s growth.
Amy will be assisted by our new Technical Administrator, Laurie Kelley, whose focus will be program registration, membership, and website management. Along with her technical expertise, Laurie is a talented artist specializing in realism.
Please join me and the rest of the Academy’s Board of Directors in welcoming Amy and Laurie to the team!
